Understanding the Impact of Cultural Diversity: Individual and Organizational Best Practices

This exploratory study focused on the effects on perceived cultural differences at individual and at organizational levels. Surveys sent out to 68 individuals with the varying National/ethnic background of 10 different countries around the globe. Ethnic diversity of survey audience included countries such as Denmark, Turkey, China, Guatemala, India, Iran, Canada, France, Georgia, Germany, Israel, Italy, Lebanon, Mexico, New Zealand, Taiwan, Caribbean Islands and Ukraine. Responses received from 25 individuals out of 68.

Results suggested that there were not much difference as an experience between the levels of diversity encounter such as National or ethnic, Organizational or corporate, or Functions within an organization; gender differences or even dietary choices. Furthermore it became apparent that the observed differences are resulting losses when taken as a threat and valuable tool that enhancing creativity. And going through a diversity experience is an enhancing and transformational experience.

This research is highlighting the themes that contribute to negative perception and best practices that help overcome the negative perception. These themes can be utilized as training and coaching tools for the individuals and organizations as they face cultural diversity. This report also includes coaching methods and tools to turn cultural differences into a helpful and creative tool.
