Dr. Low is a Professor Emeritus of Education at Texas A&M University-Kingsville, where he also served as Associate Dean of Education and Chair for the Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership. He is the original author with Dr. Darwin Nelson of the Skills for Career And Life Effectiveness (SCALE®), as well as other positive assessment tools and learning materials. Gary is a Consulting Psychologist, Patron and Life Member of the Forum for EI Learning (FEIL) in India, and Principal, EI Learning Systems, Inc. He is Founder and faculty member, Emotional Intelligence Training & Research Institute (EITRI). He has developed and taught EI courses for first-generation college students, graduate, and doctoral students, and provided workshops and seminars on the development of affective skills for over forty years. Gary's research interests are the study of emotional intelligence (EI) and its importance for student success, personal and professional development, applied leadership, teaching excellence, and organizational effectiveness. For over forty years, major professional goals have been to positively impact achievement, productivity, and personal health of students and adults, educators, employees, managers, and leaders through learning, developing, and applying EI skills and competencies. Focused research resulted in the creation and development of a family of research-derived assessments and emotional learning systems used in schools, colleges, universities, and within organizations on local, regional, national, and international levels. His EI-centric assessments have been used in many cultural contexts and translated into several languages.
