To me, having a conscious conversation means that I am physically, emotionally and mentally awake. It rarely seems to happen for more than a few minutes at a time, and I often find words and concepts to be an impediment to conscious conversation.
As Director of Civil Justice Programs for the Indiana Bar Foundation, Marilyn focuses on expanding access to justice and civic engagement in Indiana. She was formerly Executive Director of the Chicago Center for Conflict Resolution (CCR), providing dispute resolution, facilitation and training services to thousands of people each year in the greater metropolitan Chicago area. At CCR, she led effective collaborative initiatives with partners in the courts, government, schools, private sector, police, legal and social services agencies to manage and resolve conflict. Marilyn founded Consensus Building Partners, where she provided legal, project management and consensus-building services to private and public sector clients in mergers, sales, corporate governance and strategic planning challenges. Before this she practiced real estate and commercial law at Arnold & Porter (Washington, DC) and served as the assistant general counsel at The Shorebank Corporation (Chicago, IL). In these positions she resolved regulatory, compliance, real estate and risk management issues. Marilyn received her B.A. from Northwestern University and her J.D. from Columbia University School of Law. She is currently licensed to practice law in Indiana and Illinois.
