For the past 20 years, Josh Frey, founder of On Sale Promos (www.OnSalePromos.com) and the Swag Coach™ Training program (www.SwagCoach.com), has worked as a small business owner, sales manager and now coach, teaching the art of successfully selling swag (aka logoed stuff) and other add-on products/services in the ultra-competitive promotional products industry. Competing against over 20,000 companies and 250K sales reps in the US and Canada, all pulling from the same basic supply chain, Josh has coached and mentored dozens of first-time business owners sell over $5M collectively simply by leveraging their already existing network, and by operating profitably from sale #1 with his proven outsourced business model.
MORE ABOUT JOSH FREY:
Founded by Josh Frey, a 20-year veteran of the promotional products industry and Founder of On Sale Promos (OSP), the Swag Coach program is a professional training and mentoring curriculum designed to teach people how to launch a career in the $20 billion advertising specialties industry.
In a time when so many Americans are underemployed – working beneath their skill and pay grade – and job security is at an all time low – taking the leap of faith from employee to entrepreneur is not as big of a jump as it once used to be (especially with Josh and his team holding your hand every step of the way, from training to launching to ongoing coaching).
Swag Coach uses an eight-module training course, developed and written by Harvard Business School graduate and award-winning curriculum writer, to teach aspiring small business owners the very same best practices that Josh uses everyday with his own clients while running On Sale Promos. From learning about the products and suppliers to building long-term client relationships and processes for selling strategically and profitably – Josh and his team train, coach and mentor you every step of the way to help ensure success in making profitable and voluminous sales.
The Swag Coach program is based on an outsourced business model – one that Josh has worked to perfect over the past 20 years to yield an annual half-million-dollar income. It is designed to work with best-in-class partners who handle all of the parts of the business that don’t generate sales and revenue (e.g. order processing, accounting, etc) while allowing OSP team members to focus on the things that do make them money and provide freedom of schedule, e.g. meeting with clients and prospects, networking, family and personal time, etc.
Some of Josh and his OSP’s team’s more recent “claims to fame” include:
- Recognition as a Top 2% Producer amongst 20,000+ Companies in the Promotional Products industry
- $3M of collective Sales from a Swag Coach team of newly trained OSP’ers with no prior industry experience
- Average income of $350/hr amongst his team – more than most doctors and lawyers!
- Deal Close Rates of 50%+ with margins 10% higher than the industry average
A little more about Josh’s background…
1. Josh has never worked for anyone since graduating from college in 1993 (other than one 5 month disaster), where he majored in History and Hebrew… the perfect winning combination for dominating the business world! His first business, Granny’s Goodies, was started in 1994 and happily “retired” in 2004 with his brother Seth.
2. After 10 years of being business partners with his brother, Josh can now run a clinic on “Getting Back to Being Brothers with Your Brother” (or family members in general) who have tried working together in business unsuccessfully.
3. Josh is an active member of the Entrepreneurs’ Organization (EO) (www.eonetwork.org), having served in 2010 as the President of the Washington, DC Chapter. EO is comprised of 8000+ members, small business owners whose companies average $8M in revenues. Most recently Josh was recognized amongst his very critical, scrutinizing and know-it-all, and of course, fun-loving fellow EO entrepreneurs as a top facilitator at EO’s Global Leadership Conference in Vancouver, Canada.

- We use LinkedIn a ton. It’s not just about connecting with people, it’s about seeing who they are connected to and then asking about those connections. Share best practices with same buyer if in non-competitive businesses.

Becoming an Affiliate of The Swag Coach™ — http://www.onsalepromos.com/page/affiliatesOn Sale Promoswww.onsalepromos.com- outsourcing has been a huge lesson learned; couple that with cashflow opportunities to be had
- I’ve chosen an outsourced business model because I don’t like the hassle of dealing with employees..I like to partner with and work with best in class consultants or strategic alliance partners I can learn from and we can collaborate to get things done. More fun!
- understand business model, process, how to do strategic alliance, find a mentor or someone who’s done it and can walk you through how to do it
- Think a little bit outside the box. You gotta understand your buyer. partner with people who have a good reputation with a good demographic and make selective strategic alliance decisions.
- Vetting process: partner with people who you know who are best in class. Your most important asset is your relationship to your client! Don’t screw it up by referring somebody who sucks.
- Sales is so much about understanding the buyer and understanding what conversations to engage in
- Pay it forward a few times, but then set up strategic alliance or referral agreement with them, spirit of working together and partnering.

Example of coach who has a coaching system and is killing it! Mark Sanna at http://www.mybreakthrough.com/Breakthrough Coaching : Chiropractic Coaching : Breakthrough Coachingwww.mybreakthrough.com- Think about how to build collaborative connections for your clients to serve their needs beyond coaching…for example in a culture conversation, if they are thinking of creating a reward system, or a welcome program, they might want to buy corporate promotional products branded for their company. You could partner with Josh’s company to direct clients there and generate revenues that way…
- ask your clients what other things they are buying and then partner with a company who can provide that
- Focus on parts of business you enjoy…then add to the business. My business is a product business, so it’s transactional. We’ve taken it from luxury item to supply item and in the process added revenue streams…
- Figure out parts of business I like and outsource the rest. Today my business is completely outsourced…
